How Do I Get My Forklift Licence?
To get a forklift licence you need to undertake forklift theory training,
operate on a logbook under supervision and pass a forklift driving test.
There are two pathways for you to follow. The first is to attend a
nationally recognised training course provided by a registered training
organisation who is approved by the Division of Workplace Health and Safety
to licence forklifts. AIMM Industrial Training is approved by Government for
forklift licencing. The second pathway is for a qualified training person to
train you in the workplace, have a record of training, complete and operate
on a training logbook then come to AIMM Industrial Training for your licence
assessment.
After you have completed your formal forklift licence test you will
need to submit all your documentation issued by AIMM Industrial Training
to Australia Post with 100 points of identification, a passport sized
photo and pay a fee of $70.10. You will receive your new forklift licence
in the mail to your postal address within approximately 4 weeks. In the
interim you can operate on documents provided to you by AIMM.

What Class of Licence Do I Need?
In Australia there are two different classes of forklift - and each require a separate licence to operate.
The most common type is a counter balanced forklift which requires an LF Class Licence.
Refer to the picture below of the types of forklift classes.
The least common class of forklift is a stock picker or order picker. Stock pickers allow the driver to be raised with the load
often used in high rise pallet racking. A stock picker requires an LO Class Licence.
Refer to the pictures of forklifts below to assist you in deciding what

Why Do I Need a Forklift Licence?
Every state of Australia has government legislation which requires certain types of
plant and equipment to have licensed operators. This is due to safety
requirements. All employers must provide safe work places including training
in forklift operation. Companies who own plant and equipment are required to provide
training
to ensure that the persons operating the equipment have a current licence
and work safely.
